If you saw how I prefer desktop you would probably understand. I believe that white text on a back background makes sense or light emitting displays. You want to high light the text not the medium. More ink darken a page, and more energy lighten a display. It makes sense to have black text on a white background when dealing with ink, but white text on a black background makes most sense for light.
But who I am to tell you how to view the internet. If you have a browser like Firebird, then you can use the crayon icon in the corner and pick another style to view my page in.
Of course the worst thing about trying to live on a white text on a black back ground world are programs that use the system colour for either the text or background, but choose to define the other. Yahoo's Messanger is prime example of this. It always saddens me when I see. Do what you will, but be consistent.
