The First Time Around

Introduction

In August of 2000 I had already acquired some serious mixing equipment. A PMC-15mkII Vestax mixer and a Technics SL-1200mk2 turntable. Together with pitchfork and winamp on my computer I was able to begin beat mixing and other forms of music layering. After months of searching through Winnipeg's record shops, I had gathered enough beats and tricks to make a set. I performed this set live at Robin's house and recorded it on VCR tape. I did this because I knew the set would be longer than 45 minutes (one side of a 90min tape) and recording the set directly to computer would be impractical. I then transfered the audio track from the VCR tape to my computer. I then removed the middle of the set to make it fit on a CD. This was a shame because I liked the relaxed middle. The result of all of this work was The First Time Around.
