BIO Phat |
Who is Phat Albert? Well Phat Albert, or more correctly DJ Phat Albert is a new DJ practicing his mixing and music selection skills and alway look for a new place to spin. With style and flare and excellent beat selection DJ Phat Albert spins his own breed of Fusion Freestyle. His sets have a freer groove unlike most North American DJs which have a tendancy to stick of one style of techno and keep that groove up. Spining a wide variety of styles leads to mixing diffcultly but when a good mix can be found the result are amazing. Like most DJs he is always searching for new dyamic and ever funky sounds.
The technology used in my style of mixing is a free as the sound itself. There was a time when I used a NEXT turntable, in the beginning which I had little but money. Now I used a Technics SL-1200mk2 (hey I had enough money for one be happy, I surely am!) and my celeron 333. On my computer I use winamp and pitchfork, so funky beats hard to find on vinyl are avaible for me at +/-8% pitch or more. The computer brings the power of all medias together eaisly and opens up a new world of music. Using a turntable as well keeps me grounded to old school methods and enables me to do tricks not yet reproducable on computers. Though I'm working on that :).
My approach to DJing is both technical and musical. All my life I have loved all music and I seem to have a harder time getting sick on any one style or song even if is over played. Beyond that I know my electronics and computers. Presently my computer knowledge is being bolstered at the University of Waterloo where I spend an alternating four months. I am always insterested in new DJing technologies. The idea for an optical xfader enter my mind, then I discovered they exist, but I not in the way I first believed--until recently. I will save a further technical discuss of such matter for a different section of this page but I felt it important to state very quickly that I am very interested in the nitty gritty details. So if you find something incorrect on my page of a technical manor please e-mail me as soon a you can. I always want to learn more.
