What is the Project

The Roth Project itself is efforts to communicate the story that is in my brain to the outside world. The form that this communication takes is unimportant. I picture in my head as a movie, because that is how my brain works. Having no other recourse I wrote it down on pencil and paper origionally. Now it is a website to digiatally convey the story to the audience. The Project is just the extration and of the story from my brain, which can be a big job.

Central Ideas

There a few base concepts that laid the foundation that I built the story on.

  • Sword fighting is cool. More specifically martial arts in movie has come a long way in recent time, as has movie effects in general, so I thought would it be possible to do the same thing with sword fighting sequence. Combine the skills in the new Star Wars movies, with the tension of the old Star Wars movies, and use real swords. Note I use reference to Star Wars here just a reference, Star Wars had little to do with my development of this idea.
  • The character for Roth. I was walking around one evening feeling pretty depressed and this concept of the depressed Elf hit me. Mixing that with sword fighting started me on the path to creating the story.

In the Beginning

In 1998 I started doing the only think I could with the story. Write it down on paper. I use computer a lot, and even then could type pretty fast, but I didn't like the seperation between me and word when writing on a computer. So I wrote out around 70 pages of hard to read text before I lost energy to work on the story. I still have it with me in this ratty cliped folder. Waiting for a day like today.

What is Happening Now

I suddenly revisted the story. I decided what I really wanted to do with the story was to share it with people. How could I do that. People seem to read parts of my webpage so I figured I could develop it online, and people would watch and even help out with the process.

The first person to come on board was Yvonne. I am really thankful she did. For the first time the images in my head were represented graphically. Beyond strings text they entered the medium of forms and lines. I was blown away to get my first peek at what Roth really looked like in a form that others could see as well. I look forward to the artwork developing as the story itself does.

Want to Help?

When ever I work on project always welcome assistence. When people work together great things can be achieved. I of course need a lot of proof reading done, and other word. If you happen to be interested, e-mail me.
